who are Trans pride manchester and what do we do?

Trans Pride Manchester is a CIC (Community interest company) not for profit organisation founded by a group of trans and gender diverse individuals with the same goal. Trans Rights.

We are proud to not be a pink-washing, corporate pride - We do not accept sponsorship, but do accept donations, and any organisation wishing to march had to pass a strict set of trans-specific criteria.

We believe that Pride is a Protest; not a party. Although pride is also a space for celebration and to fight for our rights.

 FAQ’s about trans pride mcr

  • CICs are created for the primary purpose of benefiting the community or pursuing a social objective, rather than maximising profits for shareholders.

When it comes to transgender organisations and political discussions, CICs can play a role in supporting and advocating for transgender rights and issues. Many transgender organisations in the UK have chosen the CIC structure to formalise their operations and ensure their activities align with their social mission.

In terms of political discussions, CICs can engage in political activities as long as they are in line with their social objectives. However, there are limitations on political campaigning and lobbying activities for CICs.

  • Sparkle is a festival for trans people. This has yet to have a protest march element to it, which is the root and origin of Pride. Trans Pride Manchester is a grass roots, protest, going back to the origins of pride before it became a money making scheme for many other large pride events across the globe.

We are also part of Trans Pride UK Collective - a place where all UK Trans Prides come together to empower one another, give advice and help trans prides to grow and Sparkle is not a part of this.

We believe that there is room for all different types of events that help bring together the trans community.

  • Although Trans Pride Manchester was founded in 2021, we have not put on an event until August 2023.

This has been a long journey to get here and we are excited to continue to grow with you long into the future. It wasn’t until 2023 where we had more people join and more capacity to start outreach via social media, and flyers etc.

  • Sadly some communications we’ve received are actively hostile and creating mental health strain on core volunteers. We want to stand united against hate and against transphobia, and it is particularly hurtful to receive messages attacking the individual volunteers from trans people.

Please give us a chance to at least put on the first Trans Pride Manchester and have some faith, rather than jump to conclusions that the core team are bad people.

We are simply a group just trying our best.
